Job Title : Manager – Human Resources & Administration

Manager – Human Resources & Administration

HR duties include:

  • Ensuring the smooth and adequate flow of information within the company to facilitate sales and operational business requirements.
  • Developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives aligned with overall business strategy.
  • Working with Supervisor – Corporate Administration and managers across Canada, ensures a smooth and efficient recruitment and selection process consistent with all provincial requirements and regulations.
  • Analyzes wage and salary data from a variety of sources and provides recommendations to executive management.
  • Provides advice and guidance to managers and supervisors across Canada with respect to appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Communicates closely with managers across the country in order to prepare issue-related communications (warning letters, termination letters, harassment and other investigation findings, complaints, etc.)
  • Ensures compliance with a range of provincial legislation related to employment including Ontario AODA, Quebec’s Pay Equity Act, provincial health and safety legislation, etc.
  • Ensures the creation and maintenance of records related to employment (including governmental and legally mandated documents, documents required by parent company audits and procedures, etc.
  • Responds to any inquiries regarding HR policies, procedures, and programs including the revision of existing policies and introduction of new policies.
  • Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization.
  • Administers salary administration program to ensure compliance and equity within organization.
  • Administers all general benefit programs (Life, Health, Dental, STD & LTD, Group RSP, vacation, personal leave plans).

General Administration duties include:

  • Providing payroll and benefit administration services across the company. 
  • Providing Makita Canada’s primary legal liaison with external counsel acting on behalf of Makita Canada Inc., with respect to environmental, employment, immigration, general trade, real estate, product safety, and other legal matters.
  • Reviewing and approving contracts, leases and other legal documents as necessary; with escalation to external counsel as required.
  • Providing guidance and direction to benefits consultants with respect to general liability insurance, marine cargo insurance, fleet vehicle insurance, etc., including RFI, RFP, RFQ, etc. 
  • Managing relationships with third party service providers including brokers and insurers.
  • Identifying exposures, recommending solutions, implementing approved programs, promoting loss prevention, updating and monitoring compliance with insurance procedures and managing safety/risk management manuals, and preparing loss analyses and budgets.
  • Planning and coordinating administrative procedures and systems and devising ways to streamline both departmental and company processes.

This position reports to the Assistant General Manager and works from the corporate offices in Whitby,

Qualifications:

The successful applicant has 10+ years career experience that has combined general administration duties and human resources duties.  A business administration degree from a Canadian university with emphasis on employment law or Human Resources is required.  Superior verbal and written communication skills are essential.  Proficiency in MS Office including advanced Excel capabilities are required as is hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now payroll software.  Bilingual in French and English is preferred, but not required.

Job Title : Inventory Control Coordinator

We are currently looking for an experienced Inventory Control Coordinator who is detail-oriented, exceptionally organized, able to manage complex systems, and who has excellent communication, math and analytical skills.

This position is based out of Makita Canada’s Head Office in Whitby, ON and reports to the Purchasing and Inventory Manager.

As a member of the team you will assist with the following:

  • Set up and coordinate daily and monthly cycle counts
  • Run reports to measure accuracy and highlight discrepancies
  • Lead annual physical inventory counts and reporting results
  • Investigate discrepancies to determine root cause and recommend corrective action
  • Approve and enter data for all inventory adjustments at all locations
  • Assist warehouse employees with troubleshooting
  • Provide insight to inventory issues and identify opportunities for process development
  • Maintain assembly bill of materials, prepare work instructions and communicate to the warehouse repack departments; monitor and prioritize
  • Enter the warehouse for the physical review of a SKU
  • Prepare spreadsheets and analyze information to assist Purchasing Manager with inventory requirement forecasting
  • Monitor back ordered items and communicate with Purchasing and Customer Service
  • Receiving of all inventory items into the computer system
  • Other duties as required within the Purchasing and Inventory Department

 Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education and/or a combination of relevant experience and education
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Access)
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • Accurate data entry skills

Job Title : Product Management Assistant

Makita Canada Inc. is seeking a qualified candidate for an entry level Product Management Assistant position.  Reporting directly to the Product Manager, the Product Management Assistant is responsible for assisting with product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle. This will include assisting with market research and data compilation, gathering and defining end user requirements as related to new product development, and working cross-functionally with R&D, sales, operations, marketing, purchasing and customer service to ensure company goals are achieved. 

This position is based out of Makita Canada’s Head Office in Whitby, ON, Canada.

The Product Management Assistant will be expected to:

  • Assist with market research and competitive product testing
  • Compile and analyze market data
  • Support sales by assisting with a variety of tasks such as product training, sales presentations, product line reviews, trade shows, communications materials, etc.
  • Visit and work with end users to gather market information and conduct product testing
  • Help to launch new products and sales programs to sales team
  • Provide support across the entire Makita product range, including power tools (electric/cordless), outdoor power equipment, cleaning solutions, dust extraction and accessories
  • Manage online social media accounts (e.g. Instagram), including daily postings, product photos (creation, participation, etc.), contests and follower interaction
  • Upload and maintain website information on new and existing product lines
  • Utilize online translation service to translate materials from English to French
  • Prioritize between projects on various topics
  • Understand market trends and competitive landscapes 
  • Act independently without constant supervision
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Experience and knowledge:

  1. Basic knowledge of power tools or construction/building trades and sales or marketing
  2. Post-secondary (university or college) degree (marketing, business or building trades preferred)

Job Title : Category Sales Specialist – Outdoor Power Equipment

Based in the Lower Mainland of BC and operating out of our Richmond BC Regional Office, we are currently looking for an experienced Outdoor Power Equipment Sales Specialist to join our Western Canada (BC, AB, SK & MB) sales team.  Reporting to the Western Regional Manager – Sales & Service, the OPE Category Sales Specialist will be responsible for the following:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting Makita Canada to grow revenue and market share of the outdoor power equipment product category with a specific focus on cordless outdoor power equipment.
  • Aggressively seeking out and executing sales and conversion opportunities with professional end users and outdoor power equipment dealers to increase sales and market presence of Makita OPE products.
  • With a focus on opportunities in British Columbia, this position will also involve travel to Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
  • Serving as a “sales hunter” and Makita Canada’s “OPE category expert” in western Canada by supporting regional sales and service teams in their efforts to identify and generate sales and product demand through:
    • Daily interaction and communication with professional and targeted end users.
    • Frequent and consistent joint calls with dealer reps and Makita reps.
    • Continuous product training of dealer reps as well as Makita’s sales and service teams.
    • Participating in events and meetings in the regions and territories in support of targeted product sales
  • Participation in industry shows and networking events (with a focus in western Canada).
  • Assisting with product testing of the applicable new Makita and competitor’s products available to the Canadian market.
  • Conducting ongoing and strategic competitive and market research related to the outdoor power equipment product category.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally you will have 2-5 years of Outdoor Power Equipment sales experience.
  • You will need strong interpersonal skills that allow you to interact successfully with a wide variety of end users and customers.
  • A degree, diploma or other post-secondary training would be an asset.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office are required.
  • The Category Sales Specialist – Outdoor Power Equipment is required to keep accurate records of call activities and sales successes related to target products, brand conversions and sales calls.
