All Makita 2-stroke engines are compliant with CARB tier 3, EPA phase 2 and EU stage 2 government regulations.

Select Makita 2-stroke engines feature a catalytic converter for cleaner emissions. Some models also include a

Scavenging Losses Rejection (SLR) muffler system which recycles unburnt gas through the exhaust

increasing operational efficiency and producing much cleaner emissions.

Many of Makita’s 2-stroke engines offer a decompression button for easy starting.

All Makita 2-stroke engines require the use of synthetic engine oil with fuel stabilizer for long engine life.

Automatic decompression valve to reduce required start

up force by 40% for easy starting

No fuel / oil mixing for cleaner exhaust emissions and

reduced fuel consumption

Primer bulb and choke for easy starting

Compliant with CARB tier 3, EPA phase 2, EU stage

2 emissions requirements which exceeds government

clean air emission ratings

Low noise levels for quiet operation

Easy access to spark plug and air filter for fast service

Lightweight design for operational comfort

Diaphragm type carburetor for all position operation

Electronic ignition system

for reliable performance

The patented oil lubrication system expands

the use of the MM4 engines into product

lines such as brush cutters and line trimmers

where traditional 4-Stroke engines have

difficulty operating on slopes and angles.

The natural pressure changes in the

crankcase caused by the piston movement

in the cylinder are harnessed to pump oil

throughout the engine. Oil is pumped from a

reservoir in the base of the engine through

a network of one-way valves for reliable

lubrication and long service life without the

need to keep the engine level.

Compared with conventional

4-stroke engines, Makita’s

4-stroke engines produce approximately 20 to 30 %

more power thanks to its high combustion efficiency

and compact spark plug.

Additionally, by employing a unique lubrication system,

it has obtained the smallest in class exterior physical

dimensions among the 4-stroke engines available in the

market today. And it is also lightest in class by using a

magnesium alloy diecast for the clutch case.

Patented unique lubrication

system enables use in multiple positions

All Makita MM4 engines feature:

Makita offers many outdoor power tools with electric motors.

Electric motors are an environmentally friendly alternative to fuel

based engines. Electric motor driven equipment can be stored in the off-season with little to no preparation.

Many of Makita’s electric outdoor tools offer a soft start feature and current limiters to protect the motor

from premature burnout, extending the life of your equipment.
